How to Download & install Google Chrome in Computer System with the Help of Google Customer Support
Google Chrome is a fast web browser available at no charge. Before you download, you can check if Chrome supports your operating system and you have all the other system requirements.
How to install Chrome in Windows?
- Download the installation file.
- If prompted, click Run or Save.
- If you choose Save, to start installation, either:
· Double-click the download.
· Click Open file.
- If you’re asked, “Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device,” click Yes.
- Start Chrome:
- Windows 10 and up: A Chrome window opens after everything is done. You can make Chrome your default browser.
If you’ve used a different browser, like Internet Explorer or Safari, you can import your settings into Chrome.
Install Chrome offline
If you’re having problems downloading Chrome on your Windows computer, you can try the alternate link below to download Chrome on a different computer.
- On a computer connected to the Internet, download the alternate Chrome installer.
- Move the file to the computer where you want to install Chrome.
- Open the file, and follow the onscreen instructions to install.
If you land on the regular download page, that’s normal. Even though the installers look similar, a special tag tells us which one is best for you.
Once you download the file, you can send it to another computer.
How to install Chrome in Mac?
- Download the installation file.
- Open the file called “googlechrome.dmg.”
- In the window that opens, find Chrome

- Drag Chrome to the Applications folder.
- You might be asked to enter the admin password.
- If you don’t know the admin password, drag Chrome to a place on your computer where you can make edits, like your desktop.
- Open Chrome.
- Open Finder.
- In the sidebar, to the right of Google Chrome, click Eject

How to install Chrome in Linux?
Use the same software that installs programs on your computer to install Chrome. You’ll be asked to enter the administrator account password.
- Download the installation file.
- To open the package, click OK.
- Click Install Package.
Google Chrome will be added to your software manager so it stays up-to-date.

Fix issues with Chrome on Wayland
Chrome on Linux now supports Wayland along with X11. When Chrome opens on Linux, one of these display server protocols is automatically chosen.
How Chrome interacts with a display server protocol
- Chrome interacts with a display server protocol to help you perform certain types of actions. If you have trouble with these types of actions in Wayland you can change back to X11:
· Drag-and-drop
· Copy and paste
· Keyboard, mouse, or touch input
- Wayland restricts Chrome’s ability to perform certain actions such as:
· Tab dragging uses simplified preview thumbnails.
· Windows can’t be placed at a set location on the screen.
How to override the Chrome automatic display server protocol selection
From your browser:

Can’t install Chrome because of S mode

Create or manage your Google Account in Chrome
You can choose to create a Google Account in Chrome or any browser.
You can manage your Google Account by browsing to myaccount.google.com. If you’re signed in to Chrome with your Google Account, you can also manage your Google Account from within Chrome. When you create or manage a Google Account, you can take actions such as:
- Edit personal info, such as your name, email address, phone number, physical address, or profile photo. Learn more.
- See your data, activity, and preferences that can make Google services more useful to you. Learn more.
- Manage your saved Google Account contacts. Learn more.
- Keep your Google Account secure. Learn more.
Sign in & sync in Chrome
To save your info to your Google Account, turn on sync.
Important: Only turn on Chrome sync with devices that you own. If you use a public computer, use guest mode instead.
When you sync
- You can find and update your synced info on all your devices, like bookmarks, history, passwords, and other settings.
- You can sign in automatically to Gmail, YouTube, Search, and other Google services. If you’re signed in before sync is turned on, you’ll stay signed in.
- If you change devices, like if you lose your phone or get a new laptop, you can get your synced info back.
- If you turn on Web & App Activity, you can personalize your experience in other Google products with your Chrome history.
- To help us build products better suited for all demographics, Chrome may combine declared age and gender information from your Google Account with our statistics. This information is used only in aggregate form.

Sign in & turn on sync in Computer
To turn on sync, you must have a Google Account.
- On your computer, open Chrome.
- At the top right, click Profile

- If you're not signed into your Google Account, you'll be prompted to sign in.
- Click Yes, I'm in.

Customize what you sync in Computer System
When you turn on sync, all your profile information, like bookmarks, history, and passwords, automatically saves to your Google Account. You can find your Chrome info on all your devices.
If you don't want to sync everything, you can change what info to save.
- On your computer, open Chrome.
- At the top right, click More
- Settings.
- Click You and Google
- Sync and Google services.
- Under “Sync,” click Manage what you sync.
- Click Customize sync.
- Turn off any data that you don’t want to sync to your account.
Sign out & turn off sync
If you turn off sync, you can still find your bookmarks, history, passwords, and other settings on your computer. If you make any changes, they aren't saved to your Google Account and synced to your other devices.
When you turn off sync, you're also signed out of other Google services, like Gmail.
- On your computer, open Chrome.
- At the top right, click Profile
- Sync is on.
- Click Turn off.
To delete synced info from your Google Account:
- On your computer, open Chrome.
- Go to chrome.google.com/sync.
- Scroll to Clear Data and click it.

When you sign in to your Google Account through a Google service, like Gmail, you're automatically signed in to Chrome. If you don’t want to sign in to Chrome, you can turn off Chrome sign-in.

Find help for common problems

Sign out of Chrome Computer
You can sign out of your Google Account from Chrome.
Computer
- On your computer, open Chrome.
- At the top right, click Profile
- Sign out.
If you have sync turned on, you can turn it off. This will also sign you out of your Google Account services, like Gmail.
- On your computer, open Chrome.
- At the top right, click Profile
- Sync is on.
- Under "You and Google," click Turn off
- Turn off.
Note: If you turned sync on in Chrome and sign out of a Google service, like Gmail, you'll also be signed out of Chrome. This will pause sync until you sign back in with the same account.
Turn off Chrome sign-in
When you sign in to your Google Account, through a service like Gmail, you’ll be automatically signed in to Chrome. If you don’t want to ever sign in to Chrome or turn sync on, you can change your settings.
- On your computer, open Chrome.
- At the top right, click More
- Settings.
- Click You and Google
- Sync and Google services.
- Under "Other Google services," turn off Allow Chrome sign-in.
- If you turned sync on in Chrome, turning off this setting will also turn off sync.
Sign out remotely
You can remove your account from one of your devices, even if you don’t have that device with you. You’ll be signed out from any computer you’ve used before, including the one you’re using now.
- On your computer, open Chrome.
- Go to your Google Account to manage apps with access to your account.
- Under "Google apps," click Google Chrome
- Remove access.

Import bookmarks & settings
You can switch browsers without losing your settings and bookmarks for your favorite websites. Depending on the browser, your settings can include the following info:
- Browsing history
- Default homepage
- Bookmarks
- Default search engines
- Saved passwords
Add bookmarks to Chrome
To import bookmarks from most browsers, like Firefox or Safari, follow that browser's instructions to save or export bookmarks as an HTML file, then:
- On your computer, open Chrome.
- At the top right, click More

- Select Bookmarks
- Bookmark Manager.
- At the top right, click More
- Import Bookmarks.
- Select the program that contains the bookmarks you'd like to import.
- Click Import
- Done.

On a Chromebook
- Open Chrome.
- At the top right, click More

- Select Bookmarks
- Bookmark manager.
- At the top left, click Organize.
- From the drop-down menu, select Import Bookmarks from HTML file.
- Upload the saved HTML.
From all other browsers
- On your computer, export your bookmarks from the browser as an HTML file.
- Open Chrome.
- At the top right, click More

- Import Bookmarks and Settings.
- From the drop-down menu, select Bookmarks HTML file.
- Select Choose File.
If you haven't created any bookmarks in Chrome, the bookmarks show up in the bookmarks bar.
If you already have bookmarks in Chrome, the bookmarks are in a new folder labeled "Imported."
Open your bookmarks
- At the top right, click More
- Bookmarks.
- If you already had bookmarks in Chrome, find a new folder named "Other bookmarks."

Get bookmarks on all your devices
Turn sync on in Chrome with the same Google Account on your devices. By default, your bookmarks will sync on all of them.

How bookmarks are imported
If you didn't have any bookmarks in Chrome, the imported bookmarks appear in the bookmarks bar.
If you already have bookmarks in Chrome, the imported bookmarks are added to the "Other bookmarks" folder at the end of the bookmarks bar.

Move or export bookmarks to another browser
If you decide to use a different browser, you can take your Chrome bookmarks with you.
- On your computer, open Chrome.
- At the top right, click More

- Select Bookmarks
- Bookmark Manager.
- At the top, click More
- Export Bookmarks.
Chrome exports your bookmarks as an HTML file. Use this file to import your bookmarks into another browser.
Personalize your New Tab page in Chrome
You can control what appears below the search box on your New Tab page.
On your computer, you can customize:
- The theme with an image and color
- The content that appears
To customize your New Tab page, you must be signed in to your Google Account.

Customize your New Tab page
When you open a new tab, under the search box, you can find websites you visit often or shortcuts to websites you chose.
To switch between shortcuts or your most visited websites:
- Open Chrome
- .
- At the bottom right of a New Tab page, click Customize Chrome
- .
- Under “Shortcuts,” select My shortcuts or Most visited sites.
- To hide shortcuts, turn off Show shortcuts.
To remove or edit a site:
- Point to its icon.
- At the top right of the icon, click More
- .
- Select either Edit shortcut or Remove.
Change browser theme
Add a custom background image
You can choose from theme categories and special collections or upload an image to use as a background in Chrome.
- At the bottom right of a New Tab page, click Customize Chrome
- .
- At the top right, you can also select Side panel
- Customize Chrome.
- Under “Appearance,” select Change theme.
- You can:
- Select a theme from the gallery.
- Select Upload an image.
Chrome automatically suggests a browser color based on the image you upload or the theme you select. If you don’t like the suggested color, under “Appearance,” pick a different color.
To reset the theme, at the bottom of the panel, select Reset to Classic Chrome.
Tip: To change your background daily, click on a collection and turn on Refresh daily.
Change your browser’s color
- At the bottom right of a New Tab page, click Customize Chrome

- At the top right, you can also select Side panel
- Customize Chrome.
- Under “Appearance,” select from the available options.
- When you select the Classic Chrome theme, Chrome suggests colors that pair together.
Use Chrome Cards on your New Tab page
Chrome curates content that may interest you based on your activity. You must be signed in to your Google Account for your Cards to appear on the New Tab page. When you click on an item in a card, it opens the content in the same tab.
With Chrome Cards, you can:
- View your Cards.
- Dismiss a card's content or turn a card on and off.
- Click through your Cards to find personalized sites and content.

- At the bottom of a New Tab page, click Customize

- Select the cards you want to show or hide.
Use Recipe cards in Chrome
When you search for recipes on Google, recipes you recently viewed appear below your web shortcuts on your New Tab page. Recommended recipes based on your browsing history also appear.
Hide Recipes from your New Tab page
- Open Chrome

- Open a new tab if one doesn’t appear automatically.
- At the top right of the "Recipes" card, click More
- .
- Select an option:
- To dismiss the "Recipes" card until your browsing activity prompts new cards, select Hide these recipe ideas.
- To turn off the "Recipes" card, select Don’t show recipe ideas.
Get started with your carts in Chrome
When you add items to the cart of a retailer but don't complete checkout, you can get a link to the cart in your New Tab page.
Important: Carts are shown in Chrome for 14 days, or until you check out.
Get discounts on items in your carts
Sometimes, retailers offer discounts on your cart. To allow these discounts:
- When Google asks for your permission, click Get discounts.
- At the top of a cart, check for a discount badge.
- To go to the retailer site, click the badge.
- The discount is applied automatically to your purchase.
- If the discount isn't applied automatically, copy and paste the discount code manually.
Hide specific retailers
- Open a new tab or window in Chrome
- .
- In the center of your screen, beneath your bookmarks, find the retailer you want to hide.
- At the top right corner of the cart you want to hide, click More
- .
- Select an option:
- To hide the store until you change the contents of the cart, select Hide [Retailer name].
- To hide the store permanently, select Don’t show [Retailer name].
Hide your carts
- Open a new tab or window in Chrome

- In the center of your screen, at the top right of "Your carts," click More
- .
- Select an option:
- To dismiss your carts until you make a change, select Hide these carts.
- To turn off your carts, select Don’t show carts.
Use the Drive priority card in Chrome
On some managed devices, Chrome creates shortcuts to Drive files that you may need and adds them to your New Tab page automatically. The "Drive priority" card appears on your New Tab page for several reasons. For instance, files may be prioritized and appear if:
- Someone leaves a new comment on a file.
- The file is attached to your next meeting.

On your computer, the "Drive priority" card won't appear.
Hide the Drive priority card on your New Tab page
- Open Chrome

- Open a new tab if one doesn’t appear automatically.
- At the top right of the "Drive priority" card, click More
- .
- Select an option:
- To dismiss the Drive card content, select Hide for now.
- To turn off the Drive card, select Never show Google Drive files.

When you open a new tab, under the search box, you can find icons for websites you visit often. If you haven’t used Chrome before, it shows you some popular sites.
- To visit a site, tap its icon.
- To remove a site, touch and hold its icon. Then, tap Remove.

- From the bottom of your Home screen, swipe up.
- Touch and hold the Chrome app

Add Chrome to your favorite apps
At the bottom of your Home screen, you can find a row of favorite apps.
- You may have to remove a favorite app to clear space.
- To remove an app, touch and hold the app you want to remove.
- Drag the app to your Home screen and release it.
- Touch and hold the Chrome app

- Drag to an empty spot in your favorites and release it.
Tip: To open a new tab, an Incognito tab, or add widgets to your Home screen, press and hold the Chrome app

Open Chrome quickly on your iPhone or iPad
When you install Chrome, you can get to the app faster if you add it to your home screen, lock screen, or your dock. After you install the Chrome app and open it once, the Chrome widget will be available.
Add Chrome widget to your home screen
- On your home screen, touch and hold an empty space.
- At the top of the screen, tap Add

- Search for Chrome widgets and select Chrome.
- Swipe to find Chrome widgets.
- At the bottom on the screen, tap Add Widget

Add Chrome widget to your lock screen
Important: This feature is only available on iPhone.
- On your lock screen, touch and hold an empty space.
- At the bottom of the screen, tap Customize.
- To select a new wallpaper with widgets, tap Add New

- To customize your lock screen, tap the lock screen.
- On the screen, tap Add Widgets.
- If your lock screen already has widgets, under the time, tap the box with widgets.
- Under "Add Widgets," scroll to find and tap Chrome.
- Swipe left for available widgets.
- Tap or drag the widget to your lock screen.
- Next to "Add Widgets," tap Close

- At the top right, tap Done.
- To exit customization mode, tap the lock screen again.
Add Chrome widget to your Today view
- From the home screen, swipe right to the Search bar.
- Scroll, then tap Edit.
- At the top of the screen, tap Add

- Search for Chrome widgets and select Chrome.
- Swipe to find Chrome widgets.
- At the bottom on the screen, tap Add Widget

- To complete, tap anywhere on the screen.

- To add the Chrome app
- , you may have to clear space on your dock.
- To remove an app, touch and hold the app you want to remove.
- Drag the app to your home screen and release it.
- Touch and hold the Chrome app

- Tap Edit home screen.
- Drag the Chrome app to your dock and release it.
- To complete, tap anywhere on the screen.
Tip: If you're on an iPhone 6s or later, you can press and hold the Chrome app to start a new Voice Search, open a new tab, scan a QR code, or find your most-visited sites.
